I
am often asked how I got started in such an unlikely business as the
removal of bees, hornets and wasps for people. It's simple... One
thing leads to another. I am a hobby beekeeper, and as such am
called to collect swarms of bees every Spring (as are many other
beekeepers in the Puget Sound Beekeepers Association).
As the Spring becomes Summer, swarms of bees decrease in numbers and
nests of other stinging insects, such as wasps, hornets and
yellowjackets, increase and become more noticed by property owners.
When I am called I am often told, "I have bees in my house" and when
I get there they sometimes turn out to be not our well-known Honey
Bees, but another critter with a painful sting.
Since I USE NO POISONS, and some prefer the idea of poison-free
removal, I began to accommodate people by removing more than just
bee swarms. But since it's a lot of work and I am often stung, I
began to charge for the service. After all, it also costs me a lot
to maintain my equipment and drive all over several counties.

So the business was born. I continue doing it because it is a
supplement to a retirement pension, and I enjoy providing the
service because people are so thankful that the stingers are gone
and their children and pets are safe again.
